3 Year Old Program

All children should not be expected to reach every objective listed here during their preschool years. There are large differences in development that are perfectly normal. These goals and objectives are offered as guideposts. The primary focus of T.E.D.S. is to aid the development of the whole child. Varied learning opportunities will be provided to assist all students to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. The main focus of the 3-year-old program is social and emotional development.

Social Development

  • Play cooperatively with peers

Emotional Development

  • Begin to accept responsibility for his/her own actions

Art

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Introduce and experience development of line, color, shape, and texture
  • Recognition of primary colors and begin awareness of secondary colors
  • Introduce and experience modeling, constructing and drawing activities
  • Introduce and experience skills with various art media

Language Arts

The students are presented opportunities to:

  • Speak in full sentences
  • Use “I,” “me,” or “mine” to show possession
  • Take turns in conversations
  • Repeat sounds, words, and phrases (finger plays, poems, songs)
  • Share ideas and stories in group time
  • Use simple verbs
  • Ask and answer questions of who, what, when, where
  • Introduce left-to-right progression
  • Recognize first name when printed

Health & Safety

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Introduce body parts and uses
  • Develop an understanding of proper nutrition
  • Develop an understanding of good dental hygiene
  • Develop awareness of good health and safety rules

Math

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Recognize numbers and concepts 1-5
  • Introduce rote counting by 20
  • Classify objects by color, shape, or design
  • Identify shapes (circle, square, triangle, oval, heart)
  • Repeat single pattern
  • Answer simple questions about a graph
  • Compare groups, such as alike/different, taller/shorter, more/less
  • Introduce patterning, matching, and one-to-one correspondence (1-5)

Physical: Gross Motor

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Jump, run, climb, crawl, gallop independently
  • Introduce catching a large ball and throwing a ball
  • Become familiar with balancing activities
  • Walk on a line
  • Walk on tiptoe
  • Introduce awareness of space

Physical: Fine Motor

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Introduce self-help skills (zip, button, snap, lace)
  • Develop pincer control with pencil, crayon, or marker
  • Learn to hold scissors properly and snip paper
  • String beads, large and small
  • Paint with large brush
  • Begin to develop control with markers
  • Begin to draw representative drawings
  • Tear paper
  • Scribble with markers and crayons
  • Roll, pound, and squeeze clay
  • Build at least a ten block tower
  • Work with manipulatives (pegs, puzzles, stacking rings)
  • Turn single page of book
  • Scrunch tissue paper
  • Develop ability to complete 3-7 piece puzzles

Reading Readiness

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Share books, poems, and finger plays
  • Model reading behaviors
  • Participate in a print-rich environment
  • Understand that print carries a message
  • Participate in rhyming games

Religion

  • Appreciate God’s love for us and for the world
  • Say grace before snacks and meals
  • Attend Chapel daily
  • Recite some prayers, songs
  • Retell some Bible stories

Science

The students are presented opportunities to: 
  • Introduce and develop an awareness of senses
  • Develop awareness of nature and the world around us
  • Introduce concept of seasons and weather
  • Experiment and predict basic concepts: hard/soft, hot/cold, wet/dry

Social Skills

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Continue development of self-help skills
  • Continue development of a healthy concept of self
  • Continue development of acceptable expression of emotion
  • Continue development of participation of daily routine and group games
  • Continue development of proper manners

Social Studies

The students are presented opportunities to:
  • Develop concept of ourselves, our families, and the world around us
  • Develop an awareness of community helpers
  • Develop awareness of our holidays
  • Introduce our state (Texas)
