18 Month Old Program
Children are natural learners who develop at different rates. These goals and objectives are offered as guideposts. The primary focus of T.E.D.S. is to aid the development of the whole child. Varied learning opportunities will be provided to assist all students to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. The main focus of the 18 month-old program is social and emotional development.

In addition to working with the 18 month-old students on social and emotional development, we spend the year working on the following developmental areas:
Art
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Learn about color, shape, and texture
- Learn the primary colors
- Develop and experience skills with various art media (clay, paint, markers, tissue, etc.)
Health and Safety
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Learn about body parts and uses
- Learn about proper nutrition
- Learn about safety rules
Language Arts
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Use vocabulary, phrases and sentences
- Use simple verbs
- Respond to “what,” “when,” and “where”
- Develop listening skills
- Develop understanding of daily routine
Math
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Count to 5 by rote
- Relate numbers to self (2 eyes, 1 nose, 5 fingers, etc.)
- Learn shapes (triangle, circle, square)
Physical: Fine Motor
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Paint with large brush
- Tear paper
- Scribble with markers and crayons
- Pound, and squeeze clay
- Build at least a four block tower
- Develop ability to complete peg puzzles
- Work with manipulatives (stacking rings, snapbeads)
- Turn single page of book
- Scrunch tissue paper
Physical: Gross Motor
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Jump with two feet
- Clap to music
- Walk upstairs and downstairs alone
- Walk on tiptoes
- Walk on a line
- Throw a small object 2 feet
- Catch a rolled ball and roll it forward
Reading Readiness
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Share books, poems, and finger plays with children
- Participate in rhyming games
Religion
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Feel accepted, loved, and special
- Say grace before snacks and meals
- Learn Christian values through experience and example
Science
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Develop an awareness of the 5 senses
- Develop an awareness of nature and world around us
- Develop an awareness of seasonal and weather changes
- Develop an awareness of basic concepts: hard/soft; hot/cold; wet/dry
Social Skills
The students are presented opportunities to:
- Develop self-help skills
- Develop a healthy concept of self
